We'll use as example the application qBittorrent and we want to save the downloaded files to folder /Volume1/Downloads/qBittorrent/downloads

Here we added one torrent to be downloaded to /Volume1/Downloads/qBittorrent/downloads, but becasue we did not assigned the read/write permission for application user torrent to this folder, the torrent is on status Errored. I also did not create this folder yet.

Let's now create the shared folder Downloads under Volume1
Open Control panel and click on Share

Press on + icon, name the folder Downloads and press on Next

You can now select additional option , as example to encrypt the folder or to enable the recycle bin option. Click on Next

i will not set any permission for this folder now, i just want to create the folder. Click on Next

You can now press on Confirm

Now that the folder was created, let's assign the read/write permission to it for our application user torrent
Go to the newly created folder, click on it then on the Edit icon above

Check the option Replace the permission of all subdirectories with the permissions of the folder and then click on Permissions

On the dropdown section select Application user, and for the user torrent check the box for Read/Write. Click on Apply

Now the permission is configured and you can restart the app that require access to this folder.
In case of qBittorrent app, if we have torrents that were already added, we only need to right click on torrent file and select Force recheck

Now the file is downloaded on our location /Volume1/Downloads/qBittorrent/downloads and start seeding

In case that you follow all steps and your app still does not have access to the required folder, try to remove the permission, apply, and then assign again the permission to Application user.
