Currently, the local email server in TOS6 is broken for some users.
In this guide i will show how to use the Gmail as smtp server to send email notifications from TerraMaster NAS. For this purpose you can use your personal email or you can create a specific gmail account .
As from fall 2024, Gmail require 2-step authentication metod to login on your account, so we are going to use App Passwords to authenticate on the smtp server.
Step 1: Enabling SMTP in Gmail settings
Before you can use Gmail’s SMTP server, you need to ensure that your Gmail account is set up to allow SMTP connections. Here’s how:
Access your Google account settings: Log in to your Gmail account and navigate to your Google Account settings. You can find this by clicking on your profile picture in the top right corner and selecting “Manage your Google Account.”
Security settings: In the left sidebar, click on “Security.”
2-Step verification is enabled: Before you can use App Passwords, you must enable 2-Step Verification. This adds an extra layer of security to your account by requiring a second form of verification when you sign in.
Type a name for your app as example TerraMaster NAS and press on Create
Make sure you save somewhere the generated password, this will be use to configure TOS notifications and cannot be retrieved again from google account.
If you lost the password, delete the existing one and generate a new one.
Step 3: Configure email server in TOS
Login to TOS and go to Notifications
Enable the notification you want to receive and the additional reciepients if you want
Scroll down to SMTP server settings and adapt the values as below.
For username type your complete gmail address
For password type the app password created at Step 2
Click on Apply
Now click on Send test email and a popup should appear that the email has been Sent succesfully
All apps here are not officially provided by TerraMaster, but developed by me in spare time. All the apps you can download here are free. If you encounter problems while using the app, I can provide you with advice and help as much as i can. Since it takes me a lot of time to maintain these apps and provide technical support, I would appreciate if you make a donation to support my work and continue to provide up to date versions.
